  • Hi Sis! I haven't been able to log on in several days. Just wanted you to know that I'm still running along with ya!! I'm getting really excited about Race for the Cure! I can't wait to hear how you do... I know you will be great!! :)

    Have a happy Friday!!

    I love you
  • Hey Sis! I love it when I get to log my miles next to you... makes me feel like we're a team training together, seperately!! You know what I mean.
Oh, and just so you know, I'm sometimes logging miles for a couple of days. There's no way I could run 8 at a time right now!!!

I hope you are having a great week so far! Thanks also for the info on the bras and the ID band. I'll likely order both.

    I LOVE YOU!!!
  • When your body is telling you something, you should definitely listen!! I've been running in the Frees every day this week... I LOVE THEM!!! Even though I am not strong enough to maintain the mid-foot strike for the duration of my run, I still find that the shoes are fabulous! I'm good for about 2 miles of mid-foot strike on the treadmill, and a mile or so on pavement.

I hope you have a fabulous evening and weekend!!
    I love you :)
  • Good morning! You know, I'm still running 10 minute miles. I can't seem to go any faster unless I'm running a race. Maybe I should fire a gun in the air before I start, just to get my adrenaline going!!!

Are you enjoying your runs in the cooler weather?

    I love you!
  • Yee haw! I finally feel like I get the mid-foot strike!!! Yesterday was a short run so I could work on my form, and as usual, I started out feeling like a little girl running on my toes. Well, I started imagining myself running backward, like you suggested, and almost instantly found a cadence that felt natural and easy :) I ended up running two miles! Of course, I'm very aware of my calves and butt today, but it was so great to have that breakthrough!

    How is your training going?

    I love you! Happy Thursday!

Oh, and btw, I woke up this morning feeling much better. No headache, which is the first time that's happened this week :)
  • Well, I must be honest and say that the miles I posted today were from Saturday morning. I have been a little out of commission since then... Sunday and Monday I had a horrible headache that kept me in the bed. I don't know if my head has ever hurt so bad!! Good news is that I'm much better today.

I love you! Hope you are having a great afternoon :)
  • I feel the same way! It's really encouraging to know that you're out there trudging through hell with me... even if only in spirit! I am so looking forward to when we get to actually run together!!!

    I love you!! :)
  • I hate the mid-foot strike!! I feel like a prissy girl, running on my toes!! I wish there was a good place here to do some barefoot running, but you know how it is in the south... stickers and sweet gum balls! Ouch!
    I'll stick with it, though.

    Love you...
  • Good morning, sis! I was so proud when I saw your message to Dustin... 3 miles!!!! That's awesome! I love you and hope you have a wonderful Monday :)
  • Good morning! I can just picture you trying to run and duck from the unruly crow! Sorry you're frustrated with your pace. I'm also frustrated... damn the mid-foot strike!! I was so sore by Saturday, I could barely walk from my room to the bathroom.

Just keep at it! Even though running is the thing that is frustrating, it's also a great way to vent! It's gonna be so worth it in December :)

Dallas Turkey Trot

I was one of approximately 37K runners/walkers taking part in the Dallas Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. In spite of the way the return to Standard Time has adversely affected my running schedule, I finished the 5K in 35:07, about half a minute faster than I ran the Race for the Cure. Happy me! Although I didn't check out the feet of all 37K trotters, I was, as far as I could tell, the only person out there in FiveFingers. Being one of the few (only?) people running in FiveFingers had an…

First Race, First 5K

I started running in June at the age of 43, with no athletic training ever. Today I ran my first race, the Dallas Race for the Cure, in 35:36, and if the directors hadn't closed off the starting line from the finish, I could have run it again because I was feeling so good and happy. I wasn't fast, but I did complete the race and squeaked in under my goal time.I noticed a couple of things as I ran. First of all, a lot of people have purely terrible form. And those that I noticed with terrible…
