I started running consistently back in August. I have done three 5k's since then, which for me is AWESOME. :) I decided to try pushing myself a bit more and signed up for a 10K coming up in March. On Monday I went on a twenty minute run after a week or two of not much running, due to being sick. That evening I noticed that my calves were super tight. The next morning I had shooting pain in my lower back and down the back of my legs. I haven't been able to run since then. Any running type motion sends the sharp pain shooting down both of my legs. Any advice, suggestions or similar experiences? Does anyone know what is going on?

Might be glute tightness, try massaging and foam rolling your glutes and hips.  Then sit "indian" style on the floor and lean forward and in all directions to help stretch the hips/glutes.
