Well, it was bound to happen, didn't realize it was going to happen so soon. I am changing part of my schedule for the 100 mile race. I am changing the race itself, instead of the Cascade Crest 100 in August 2013, I am going to run the Lumberjack 100 in April 2013. Yes, I know that only gives me 10 months to prepare instead of 14 months. I talked to a couple of people who had run the race and they kept emphasizing how hard the Cascade Crest 100 was with its 20,000 feet of elevation…

Ok, so I'm at week 13 of my running quest and a fair bit has happened since the last time I recorded something here (for one, I've had a bucketload of final professional exams to study for, taking up a fair bit of my time).
I think last time I wrote a post, I'd just picked up my FiveFingers (if I didn't put that last time: I picked up some FiveFingers) and I've been gradually pushing up my distance in them. I think I've already written about my experience running completely…

So the other day I was on my 10 mile run. I was barely into mile two, still the warm-up phase for me when I rounded a corner and there crossing the road was a baby possum. It was moving it's little possum butt at a leisurely pace and I was hoping it would get far enough across before I intersected it's path, therefore being close enough to sprint away if it noticed me and decided to purse, chase, attack- whatever possums do. I didn't know. Maybe it was the sloshing of my water bottle, maybe…

A year ago this past weekend I ran my first trail run. The Tail Twister 50K near Bentonville, AR. I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea what running off road was. I was training for my first ultra...a 50 miler that was scheduled in July and needed a really long run that weekend. A friend invited me to this race. 7 hrs 20 minutes and countless falls, near falls, and toe stumps (with the eventual loss of 4 toenails) later I finished. I came through the finish swearing never ever to…

I have two other blogs that I write at the moment and it seems like they have all been focused, in one way or another, on the idea of the Mental Game...the thing that keeps you motivated and can shoot you down the fastest, the creature that lives in your head...we all know how it goes.
There's always this moment of bliss for me when I start something new, before the accomplishments/goals/expectations can hit..when I'm just doing something that I've never done before and I'm…
