Yet another race report

Just ran my 2nd half this weekend at the annual Kansas City Corporate Challenge. Wasn't planning this race but since I work for a software company, there aren't a lot of 46 year old women they could coax to run in my age group!

Since this was a race for team points, I wanted to do more than just finish happy this time around.  Unlike my first half a few weeks ago, I wanted to…

Visualization for IM St. George

A few weeks ago I completed my 6th Ironman and had my best finish, 5th place in my age group! I have used visualization for other races but I struggle using it with Ironman. Visualizing the race would make me nervous. Eric had a solution. As we talked about what I wanted to happen he had me write it down. I was telling my story on how I saw myself racing. My story started a few days before the race and didn't end until I crossed the finish line. I read my story over and over the week before the… Continue

My first (successful) solo long trail run!!

Ok, so I went into this one dreading it a bit, remembering my previous long and somewhat remote trail run experience in the Ouachita's of SE Oklahoma. This is rattlesnake and copperhead territory...and I hate snakes ...more than Indiana Jones. Last time I was here I went out too fast, pushed hard trying to make good time, fighting every rock, root and hill and ended up lost and completely defeated at 18 miles. This one was to be a 4 hour run per coach Eric. It started off on a bad note. Tried… Continue

Race Report

I "Rocked the Parkway" on April 14th. Just now getting around to posting about the experience.

This was the first time I'd raced a half-marathon so no time goals. I only wanted to finish and not walk. I was aiming for 2:10 and finished in 2:08. Not going to win any races with that pace but mission accomplished!

During my training runs, my left hamstring, periformis and Achilles would act up on…

Last Minute Weekend Success! My First Half Marathon...86.9 more miles to go!

Sunday May 6, 2012 is a day I'll never forget. But the story around this day and its success started 4 days prior. At work some coworkers and I were having a team lunch. I was excitedly telling my co-workers about the 5k I ran the weekend before and how I placed 4th in my age group even though I was sick as a dog and had to stop 3 times to cough up a lung. Feeling "high" from that day I decided I was going to run another 5k with a friend of mine this upcoming weekend feeling confident I…

Article i came across...The TRUTH about egg yolks

I can't seem to be vegan yet despite all the great runners who are!   But I came across this article on my favorite breakfast and feel a little better about eating it almost everyday.

For everyone like me who hasn't made the switch to vegan yet...what is the verdict on eggs?  I run about 4 miles every other day and am working on building an egg omelet with onions and spinach (or any other…

Luna Sandals and the Beginner Program

Hello Everyone:

I haven't run for about two years, but when I was running, I ran no more than 3 times per week and no more than 3.5 miles at a time.  I want to get back into it and have recently ordered a pair of luna sandals in an attempt to implement a forefoot strike.  Do you think it is appropriate to use the Luna sandals in conjunction with the 6 week beginner program on the site?  If not, is there a shoe that anyone would recommend?  Thank…

Att: Guilty running parents

For all those parents who run and sometimes feel guilty for time on trails vs time spent with family, a little inspiration that maybe it does have a positive effect on your kids. My son (7 years old) woke us up early in the morning and is fully dressed and asks us if it is okay if he goes for a run. I groggily asked him what his route was going to be and he gave a full detailed description of his proposed route with side trails and all. Couldn't argue with that so off he went on his first…
