Pre Race Tips that I"ve learned from Eric

Race season is beginning or has begun for a lot of us.  I am 1 week out from my first endurance race of the year- IM St. George.  I like to use this time to prepare mentally for the race, especially now that I am beginning to tapper.  I would like to share a few tips from Eric.

IT Band and Your Downhill Form

Now that the snow is starting to melt here in the Tetons, I always see a jump in IT Band issues when runners start hitting more hills.  This stems from their downhill running.  We generally have good form running uphill, but when we let loose downhill, getting that much needed reward from the climb, we tend to heel strike more.  Heel striking in general is bad and can lead to IT band tightness, but with the pounded on the downhills, a heel strike first crash landing can wreck havoc on your… Continue

In Head First

After several years of fighting back/neck issues that cause my left foot to go numb or tingly I have decided to get serious about working out.  Doctors claim not much is wrong with me other than a small bulging disc in the lumbar region.  After seeing a Kinseotherapist I have been coinvinced exercise is all I need even though I am really not "out of shape" body wise (5'11 and 165 lbs).  My body just wants to be exerted!

Beginning 6 Week Program

I'm a new, unfit runner one year post broken ankle.

 

I started with the test on Thursday 3/31/11 and have been recovering since.

Today I did Workout #3

Endurance Threshold - Zone 2-3.

  • 10 min warm up
  • 10 min ms Fartlek according to heart rate
  • 6 min Cool Down
