A number of years ago when I was running fairly regularly but no great mileage I turned up for the Great North Run (a half marathon) in Newcastle, England. On pulling my kit out of the car I found out that I had not packed my trainers. Normally I would have said "Sod it, I'll just watch" , but that year I had decided to do a sponsored run to raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy as a friends child suffered from it. Obviously I had to run to raise the money. Luckily I (or so I thought)…

I am a very big fan of my Nike Free 5.0 shoes. They work. And when something works I try not to change it. I went online to replace my tattered pair only to learn that the shoe was discontinued. Do I get the Nike Free 3.0 or the Nike Free Run? All the techno-babble about the differences did not really help me. While on a short run during my lunch hour last week, I passed a guy sitting at a bus stop. I realized he was looking at me a little too long with a "your crazy" look on his face. Ironicly, here in conservative Texas, he probabley has people look at him that way. He had multiple face pierceings, and I was running barefoot.
