Running After Antelope

LIstened to a 1997 episode of "This American Life" on the way to work yesterday:

In it, Scott Carrier talks about persistence hunting and living more simply. Forgotten how much I love him.

12 Week Endurance Training

Hi Eric,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for your expertise in the 12 Week Endurance Training! I'm up to week 3 and feeling stronger and more efficient in my running than ever before. Yesterday I did a PB in a 19km run, 1:43, and I felt as if I could have gone a lot further! My leg strength & efficiency is improving rapidly, as is my speed.

I'm training for my 1st marathon in July and hope to go sub 3:50! ....Then onto Ultra's!

Thank you again, I'm re-discovering…

Brick with le child

We were fortunate to have another glorious day in the 60s. Burned some serious calories today doing a run/swim brick workout  with the kiddo.

Started with a really easy trail run at the dog park. On the way out of the place, a poor woman was trying to find her runaway dog. We ended up doing some unplanned hill work trying to help her wrangle the frightened thing!

After that, Jude and I participated in a parent/child swim team practice. It's a new thing my son's swim coach is…

New results

Week 3 of trying and week 6 of research. Took my lab out for a night trot and while only getting 100 yards of run then walk, I think the pacing with the dog got form results. Also did 6 miles of walking on an adult pub crawl - don't ask. Shins hurt but calves ok for a change.

Day 1

Truthfully, I haven't looked around on here for any forum discussions on navigating the training program. I also didn't read the manual for my heartrate monitor. So today being Day 1 of my training plan, I needed some help with that lovely piece of plastic and hooking it up/downloading/uploading all my info into the training site.

Actually, my Garmin Forerunner 110 is easy to use which is primarily what I wanted it to be. I also didn't want the actual watch to be cumbersome. You've…

Unseasonably Warm

Squeezed in a lunch run today because it was FREAKING 65 degrees here today. I wore a tshirt and shorts, something I've never done in a Kansas January. My YakTrax and baselayers might be sitting in the drawer a little bit longer this season.

Well, I guess I'm in

It serves me right, picking up that Born To Run book left "innocently" around by my husband. You know the one; you probably wouldn't be here otherwise.

Then I got all VFF, proudly strutting my "shoes" around and answering questions galore. If I had a dollar for every question asked, I could buy myself some real shoes. Wait, I don't even like real running shoes anymore. And what is a real running shoe anyhow?

I ran all the time as a kid. In high school I ran to school and back.…
