I'm what you guys would call a noob, just started running in May; finished c25K successfully and jumped right into bridge210K; now I'm attempting to tackle a HM training program; it's 12 weeks long…Continue

How's running long this weekend?

I have no fears, so far, just lots and LOTS of questions. Instead of hijacking this forum, Eric, is it OK to add a new discussion thread?

Wel thanks for the invite. Yes, I'm an Ultra V.

My aim this summer/autumn is to run the length of Aerobic Corridor here in the Laurentians Quebec. Its on old Rail Trail 58K long and runs through beautiful countryside of forest , hills and lakes. Its not a race, just me, so I'll be self sufficient, as always.

I'm kind of a loner in running, not particularly through choice, its just not very populated where I live (Which I love as well)  I have never done a race, been running most of my life and regularly run 30K - 50K a week. my longest run is 30K.

So my question for today is do races help? Am I missing out. I love running and often dont time or measure the distance of my run but for my goal i feel I should get more . . . something or should I just keep training and slowly upping the distance/time on feet.

Eric, thanks for this resource its been brilliant and I'm looking forward to reading your book.

Cheers.

PS@emma The Wall sounds gorgeous, I trekked a lot of Hadrian's wall when I was younger. its stunning. Jealous. Good luck!

Although I'm not an ultra virgin, I still consider myself a baby in this new world I've stumbled upon.

I am currently working towards running my first ultra in June 2014. This will be The Wall hosted by the Rat Race, a 69 mile run in Hadrian's Wall country in the UK.

Well, my first Cool Impossible was a 40-mile trail run around Mt. Hood to celebrate my 40th birthday. As you know, I've turned to cycling in my old age, to preserve my knees and back, and to offer the next Cool Impossible. But I'm happy to chime in to this group as a running mentor - those knees and low back certainly have a lot of running miles and experiences to draw upon.

Keith are you thinking on two wheels or two feet?

Hello all. I'm certainly no virgin -ultras or otherwise -and I've got to admit that it's been almost 22 years since I last ran an ultra, but you don't forget those experiences, ever. I'm here to offer encouragement and insight to anyone undertaking their first ultra, just ask. And don't hesitate to dream BIG. What's your Cool Impossible?
