I'm about half way through an 18 week marathon training program. Everything has been going perfectly, but last weekend I was struck down with tendonitis on the top of my right foot, after finishing up a 32 mile week. I took 2 days off, did an 8 mile run with no pain, no issues. I then attempted a slow 15 mile run yesterday but after mile 5 the pain was too great. I walk back to my car (very deflating).
My weekly mile totals have been steadily increasing, and I'm supposed to be ramping up to 44 total miles in a couple of weeks.
If I take this next week off completely, and assuming that's enough to heal this problem, what is the best way to get back into the training schedule without risk of reinjury? I feel like I'm running out of time with only seven weeks to go before I start a two week taper. The marathon is in Richmond on Nov. 14th. Or put another way, how long can I rest and heal before it's too late to run the event? I really wanted to PR in this race.
