Does anyone out there have a favorite Trail race that they would suggest for either Sept or Oct of this year. Something longer than a 10K since some travel will be involved and want to make it worth the time- thanks!

Hi Jenn,

I'm not sure where in the Western States you want to be, but here in the Bay Area, Pacific Coast Trail Runs (www.pctrailruns.com) has a good variety of runs (all with various distances).
Hey Sman - That PCT run series is exactly what Jenn was looking at. Is there one you recommend over the other?? Thanks - E
I can't recommend one of the PCT races over the other, but having run in the Golden Gate Rec Area I highly recommend any of those races. I did a course out there that was roughly the Muir Beach race course and ran for 25 or so miles. I didn't intend to do that, it was just that every time I got to the top of a hill I saw something else I wanted to run to. I had skipped out of a conference that was putting me to sleep, jumped on a bus that dropped me at a trail head and took off. I finished the day by running down into Sausilito and taking the ferry back over to San Francisco at sunset. That was a fun but tiring day.
I've actually only done one of their races, a 20K from Stinson Beach up and down Mount Tam (last November). As Jonathon points out (below) Marin County (north of San Francisco) is a trail runner's paradise (as is most of the Bay Area). I would recommend scanning their site and picking whatever fits; they're all in beautiful places, are well-marked and the organizers are friendly (and accentuate the non-competitive aspect of their runs). Happy trails!
