Hi I just joined the group and have been running barefoot for 3 months now. Loving it changed my running life.
I live in Quebec and I'm dreading the the winter... its so close now. Still manage to get out at -3 in the morning but just 20 minute runs (No snow)... it warms up a bit by time I get back. When the snow arrives not sure what to do. I haven't invested in 5Fingers yet, not sure I like the idea of toes in finger like holes. Guess I have to try.... We get a lot of snow here in the Laurentians so maybe barefoot skiing is next. : )
I had the same concern last winter! And i ended up running in nice DRY and WARM gore-tex shoes(Northface) and I trained my barefeets at home or on the treadmill at a gym! I have a new pair of gore-tex shoes(salomon) for this coming winter and will run in them combine with waterproof low gaiters and merinos whool socks! So bring as much slush as you want... IM ready!
The only tricky part is to keep the same "barefoot form" with the cautioned/corrective shoes- Last winter i had some troubles cuz i was fighting the shoes and after i realised that,,,I relaxed my feets and let the shoe do it's job and concentrate to keep a good form from ankels to hairs! It solved the problem.......and my feets were happydry!!! It's hard enough to get out the door when it's cold... Don't suffer freezing wet feets!
Hi. I live in Vermont near many of the big ski areas. We get a ton of snow and I am thinking it is more humid here than where Eric lives. I ran in Vibram KSO's a lot last winter on the snowmobiling trails. I went out early before work and never on the weekends (XC skied) and never saw a snowmobile.
I ran in as cold as -20. I used Injini toe socks. One thing I found out after the first run is that snow tended to fly up my pants LOL, so I needed to protect my ankles and legs. I used an old pair of leg warmers. A little Flashdance, but HEY!, they did the trick!
