this sounds weird, but during a race - whether a 10k, or a 50-miler I will find that i've forgotten what I'm doing.  i mean i'll notice i'm not running very fast, i'm not tired or hurt just sorta taking it easy - as if to enjoy the day, yet it's a race where i'm supposed to be trying HARD.  

anyone ever drift off and slow down for no real reason?  I know i'll beat myself up about my poor(er) performance later, but in the moment i inexplicably relax :(
