Thanks for this, Eric. This was relevant for me (age 57 and just starting to walk and run after many years). Calf and knee pain are preventing me from running at all -- I think due to age and BMI (5'10 225). So I have been relegated to walking as I try to get the BMI down. I did buy the book and Freo slant board, so I'm trying to get back into running if I can. If Eric has discussed walking somewhere, I haven't come upon it. But I would like to know your thoughts about walking as a stepping stone to running, or maybe as an end-exercise in itself. I'm not in this to compete; in it for health, fitness, and longevity. Thanks for what you do; has helped a lot (both information and motivation)!
