Hi Eric - this is so true. When I set my 100 mile goal back in late 2015 early 2016, I almost immediately started making excuses as to why it couldn't be done, and I then started reducing the goal to something I thought i could do. But I've now hit on the idea of using the 'shorter' goals as training points to get to the real goal of running 100 miles. So this year will be training to run a 50k, next year training built around running 50 miles and year after training to reach the ultimate goal of 100 miles. Thanks for these videos - love 'em

Eric, This was perfect. Last night I updated my goal for IMMD to a specific, measurable and seemingly impossible 9:30 overall time. I feel like you made this video to re-enforce the Cool Impossible I just set. Fierce, Patient, Persistent.

Great video Coach. Top 5 at Hard Rock. Whoever that is, that is definitely a Cool Impossible. Much respect. 

And Mark, once you get over 40 brother, you get faster, so you'll definitely be able to crack that sub 1 hour time for the 14km race!!

Dear Eric

Thank you for the video. I am writing from the Southern tip of Africa, where it is hot! I have started on my journey towards eventually running the Fish River Canyon ultra.(another muchos hot, dry place). It feels impossible at the moment and it is all about baby trail running steps for now. Thank you for your approach.

Great segment Eric!

I only run one event a year, a 14km road run that I first ran in 2001 (aged 24 and taking me over 80 mins). After a few more attempts I was able to get close but never under my 70 min goal.

After reading Born to Run in 2014 and taking some of what I learnt on board I finally scraped in under 70mins.

After reading The Cool Impossible at the start of 2015 I set what I thought was an impossible goal of 60 mins. Following the program I managed to get my PB down to 61 mins.

Two more attempts since have seen me go backwards by a couple of minutes and I thought I may as well abandon that goal now that I’m over 40. It was great to watch the segment as it has reinforced that I need to read the book again and leave that 60 min goal as is. Thanks.
