Sand Tracks...

Finally finished up my previous training plan and started Eric's plan in Cool Impossible (great book by the way...has pulled together all this experience I have floating around in my head).  Did the week one day four workout in Ocean City MD yesterday running on the beach.  I know I was supposed to be focusing on cadence, but my mind wondered to analyzing  tracks in the wet sand (I can nail a 90 cadence in my sleep).  Many people were bare footing it, but just as many in shoes.  It was interesting to see the various stride lengths and variations in shoe imprints.  Many deep heel imprints with little evidence on toe off as seen in the bare foot imprints.  When I turned around to head back to our hotel I was pleased/relieved to see a nicely formed imprint of the forward part of my shoe tread and a light heel pattern.  So, the next time your at the beach try out a little wet sand running to assess your foot strike.

  • Cool! I'm going to be in San Diego soon, I guess I have a reason to go to the beach now (twist my arm).

  • I was just down there 2 weeks ago for 2 weeks. Also started my training there by running in the wet sand. Loved it! Then drove up to Rehobeth to the Merrell outlet and bought some Barefoot minimal shoes. Love the barefoot concept and it is changing my running already. No Thrasher's but a lot of Dumser's.
  • Rich, happy to say nope...no Thrasher's, Boardwalk Fries or Dumser's...but they are all really good.  I did have a handful of Fisher's Carmel Popcorn while on the Boardwalk, but that's it.  Not that I'm on some crazy diet.  I eat just about anything, but 90% of my intake are smart calories.  I have the ability to limit the amount of junk calories without too much challenge (just a bite or two here and there).  For example, I love dark chocolate and I eat some everyday.  2-3 dark chocolate Hersey's kisses after a meal and I'm good.

  • Dente,

Did you treat yourself to some Thrasher's Fries or Dumser's Ice Creamwhen you were done?  I know both violate whatever diet we should be on, but damn if they aren't good.

  • hoping to do the same when on holiday next week
