In the middle

Well I won't say in the beginning as I've been running off and on for a long time... I run to keep up my fitness, keep outside, and purely because I enjoy it... I have now decided that I'd like to run longer distances and am aiming at doing a 100km trail run later in the year, I'm confident as I can plod along all day but then I read a book "born to run" it led me to coming across a couple of you tube clips of 'Erics' I decided to give to see on my next run if I could replicate the technique shown, realised I run on my heels, found I can run a hell of a lot faster and easier running on the front of my feet and trying to do the other bits and pieces I saw... Ran a hell of a lot faster, felt heaps better running, had a heap more energy at the end of my run.. And a day later my calves are killing me, ha! So now I'm waiting for my book to arrive (Cool Impossible) and trying to transition across with my technique (didn't really have one before) in my own way until then, becauseI don't see the point in keeping on doing it the hard way (not that I knew). Hopefully I don't lose too much running fitness in the transition as I'm really keen for that 100k later on in the year.Oh I live out in country Australia and have some of the best running around I reckon, as much gravel and dirt rds as I can want, mostly rarely used and the grampians national park nearby... Love running at dawn especially when early enough and start by starlight.First blogs the longest I spose :)

  • Thanks robert, you training for the marathon this year round then :)

  • Hi David no I hav'nt run it, last year I trained for the Great Ocean Rd Marathon which is a point to point course along the Great Ocean Rd. It's 45km run between Lorne & Apollo Bay but unfortunately I injured my left foot, as they say that's life & was then looking to this run. The Great Ocean Road marathon is run this year on the 18th of May. Cheers
  • G'day Robert, thanks. Yeh that's the one, it sounds great... I've bush walked all said terrains so have an idea of what I am getting myself into, just need to do it a little bit quicker :) have you run the surf coast century? Actually I did not see a lot of talk about rd in the description... Not sure if I'm as keen on that, might have to have another look! I'm planning to do a 20k in Forest (the town) in June and maybe a 50-70 at You Yangs in July to get used to the whole organised concept... Just have to feel my way I spose! Cheers
  • Hi David, welcome to The Cool Impossible Community, is the 100km trail run you speak of the "Surf Coast Century" at Lorne in late October. If it is, the run just isn't trail, there's beach, road & dune sections as well. Cheers
  • Thanks, I don't usually get very sore so it was a bit of a surprise. Although in hindsight makes total sense.... Cheers!
  • Sounds great! Yes those calves will be a wee bit sore at first so EASE into transitioning your form ;0)

I am the queen of ridiculously long blogs...so never fear!  Have fun and keep us posted!
