As promised, I did get started on the Foundation Program. Of course, I did not doubt that I would get started this week, simply because I fit the description of a 'Perfectionist' from Eric's book. I was very disappointed to not having got underway last week because I have about 3 months to the La Ultra (thehigh.in). I won't be a runner at this event, but I have signed up to be crew for one of the runners. My objective is to help my runner to the finish line after a 333 km run in the Himalayas and experience this one-of-a-kind race myself.
I have planned my training week to start Tuesday of the week because Sunday is convenient for my long run. This means that Monday, is my Rest Day. I started with the Week 1 Schedule provided in Phase 1 - right at the beginning!
I got in 5 runs in the week. I missed the Day 4 schedule because I got to bed very late Thursday night. This was marked optional. So I did not feel too bad about it. However, I nailed the remaining and did EXACTLY what was recommended for the warm up, the main set and the cool down. I have made a mental note that I will stick to the maximum times that Eric recommends in his program. So my long run this morning was a 5' Warmup followed by a 65' run at HR2 ending with a 5' Cooldown.
I want to add that this is my second experience with a Foundation Program. In 2011, I completed a Foundation Program recommended by Dr. Phil Maffetone in 'The Big Book of Endurance Training and Racing'. I have generally been following the recommendations made and the Maffetone Method for over 3 years now.
