Beginning 6 Week Program

I'm a new, unfit runner one year post broken ankle.

I started with the test on Thursday 3/31/11 and have been recovering since.

Today I did Workout #3

Endurance Threshold - Zone 2-3.

  • 10 min warm up
  • 10 min ms Fartlek according to heart rate
  • 6 min Cool Down

Equipment: Invisible Shoe Hurraches, Cheap, Sportline Armband to carry Phone (safety only, no listening)

Notes: I worked on form, thinking "UP, up, up, up, up", throughout warm up, main set and cool down.

The most amazing thing happened when I started running. The carriage dropped just a little and I was cruising peacefully like one of those electric cars on an amusement park ride for little kids. Quiet and easy. No jarring.

I even almost snuck up on a deer!

My pre warm up, warm up is: an Eric Franklin based Pilates foot wu found here.

I also use this foot training.

I am training to participate in the Born to Run Naked Tour in Hattiesburg, MS. No one ever comes here so it's very exciting!

  • That seems a good way to start!  I have always had problems of knee pain when training.  As I got faster and runs got longer, the knee pain would build up until I finally had to lay off and heal.

I don't think that will happen with the minimalist shoes.  I have been telling all my friends with knee pain to try it.

  • It's great. I am not an experienced runner, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

    But I have enjoyed it.

I wear them for whole runs or in combination with being barefoot for protection when I need it.

    Our road is kinda gravely.

    It's already warm here!

  • Ooooohhhh!  Running in hurraches!   How is that? I'd like to hear more about them.

I am planning to make some for my self and my kids this summer when it warms up.  Until then, I am doing the VFF's.

  • Rs 300
  • Polar RS 3000
  • Which heart rate monitor did you get?
