Hello,
I started transitioned to BF about 2 months ago -- do a mix of BF, VFF & running shoes.

I'm doing a half ironman on Sept 12th -- and possibly a 50k trail run  December 18th.  I'm wondering what the best way to proceed is.  I've been a runner for over 20 years and have always  had shin injuries, knee pain, ACL, etc.  I just gave birth to my 2nd daughter 9 months ago.  I was plagued with severe pelvic pain when running even only as little as 3 miles.  I ran 3 half marathons withing 4 months of her birth and would have pounding pain on my pelvic bone for days after.

My OB tested me for PID, cysts, tumors, etc and could find nothing wrong.  My old running partner of several years just got her VFF's. 2 months ago I got a pair and started running with the barefoot group here in NYC.  I really want to improve my form, economy & power.  Running is my first love (fell for her at the age of 12).  I really can't decide if I should do one of Eric's training programs, if so, which one?  Or should I stick to my 3 runs a week in prep for the half ironman in September?

I have always been a heavy heel striker so running barefoot feels awkward --- work on my form continuously.

Lastly, should I keep changing up my footwear or stick to just one mode?

Thanks so much!

What I wanted to say was that since I started running barefoot, my pelvic pain has disappeared. I agree with a lot of what was presented in Born to Run. Maybe running shoes, combined with my weakened core/pelvic area (from pregnancies & births) was causing bad form which was leading to very uncomfortable foot pain.
