Form Awareness:

  • Leading with the (left) knee, with heel under hamstring.
  • Stance leg (right) almost straight, driving thru the ground relative to speed.
  • Toe off (right foot) is up on ball/toes without excessive push off from ankle.
  • Upper body is upright, not leaning, which is key to allow him to be very open at the right hip enabling him to run fast (increasing distance per stride).
  • Relaxed arms, driving elbow back.

Look at those loooong legs!

crazy long and fast.  Herb Elliot

Awesome pose!  And truly beautiful form...makes me think I need to get a camera and take video or stills of myself running to see what I'm doing and, more specifically, not doing as well as I could.

But isn't he plantar flexing? (i.e. the angle between foot and ankle more than 90 degrees). And isn't he pushing off with his toes? I thought we were supposed to avoid those things to minimise calf pain. Or have I got it all wrong??? And how can you tell from the picture that he's not using excessive push from the ankle? Puzzled. And also not running because of flexor dig. longus pain (and trying to find out why).
