I've searched through the forums and haven't found much info on race day advice for half marathons. I have my first half coming up and a second one two weeks later.

Food:

I'm already thinking about my race day meal. I have to plan ahead because I'm allergic to wheat, eggs and dairy. No simple answers there... I was thinking some lean turkey and applesauce but not sure how soon before the race I should eat it.

I also wondered about fuel during the race. I know they offer Gatorade at the aid stations but I pondered carrying my own fuel because I loathe that stuff. Thoughts? I currently use those GU gummies and carry water when I do long runs.

Pace:

This race has pace groups leaders. I've not familiar with this so I'm not sure which group to choose, if any.  Any words of wisdom would be appreciated on this front.

Related to this: Should I shoot for a certain HR zone during the race?

Unmentionables:

I'll finish this up with one final question: potty breaks. I hope I won't have to go but if I do, any bathroom strategies? An ultra running friend of mine told me to just go while I run. That might work for him but I'm in the "NO WAY" camp.

If they have water & fuel stations there will likely be portapotties. I have never been to a rce longer than a 10k where they didnt have them on the course. You might carry a few squares of toilet paper in case they don't, and just do what you have to.

I went while I was running once. Bad chafing.
