So a day of rest gives me a chance to reflect on where I've been and where I'm headed. It also gives me a chance to say thank you to those that got me here, in particular Eric Orton.  I think I've come a long way in a little over a year.  I was running 4-5 mi 3 days/week max, struggling with fatigue, fighting diabetes, and ready to give up running altogether.  A friend changed my life by convincing me to try...for 1 week running with she and some friends at 4am in the morning.  I had heard rumors of these women, and I once considered them psycho for running crazy distances when the only other people out and about at that time of night were hitting Taco Bell for their "4th meal".   She convinced me to train with her, which is how I met Eric. Darn near 20 lbs lighter, diabetes in remission, with more energy than I ever had, here I am. I had no idea what "ultra marathons" were and had to ask on the way to my longest distance ever...the OKC half marathon last year how long a marathon exactly was. I've now completed a 50k trail, 50 mile, 100 mile, 6 hour trail and managed to somehow qualify for the Boston Marathon.  We overhauled our diets as well in response to our daughter's rheumatoid arthritis. Bye bye sugar (almost completely) and workin' on the kids.  It has been an amazing year!  Even more amazing are the people that are being ignited around me to make changes. Now the work begins for Leadville....

Not that winning is important, but Lori forgot to say that she crossed the finished line FIRST and WON her first 100 mile race!!

Lori - thanks for making my day and highlighting why I do what i do.  Keep demanding the impossible!

BTW - what were you doing at McDonalds?  Getting bad coffee I hope!

Congratulations Lori - you've come a long way! It's great to remember and be grateful for the help of the people who've helped you along the way - that's what building a community is all about. I'm inspired to hear your story - and am looking fwd to my training for my half-marathon on Oct. 14 in Toronto. I wish you all the best in your preparation for the Leadville...... Happy Running!

Thank you, and best wishes on your adventure as well! Maybe we will see eachother on the trails somewhere down the road!
No, liquid evilness-diet coke! I have widdled myself down to 1/day. And I am about ready to relinquish that one too...no longer tastes as good and actually makes me feel kinda yucky! Diet coke used to make me feel so good...I thought!
