Permalink Reply by Liz McNutt on April 15, 2012 at 9:32am Thanks Casey! Raw, local is what I do! I'll definitely check out those sites. The more I read and learn the more motivated I stay! It gets easier every day but I'm still not at 100% sugar/processed food-free! However in two weeks life gets much simpler around here, and I'm going to step up my running. WIth that the diet follows much more easily than when I'm not as active! I find I don't crave sweets and bad foods.
Permalink Reply by Casey Teske on April 15, 2012 at 1:11pm I love it. Paleo is definitely a LIFESTYLE and not a restrictive thing to do for 30 days :)....I love helping people with this stuff.... I just made up a booklet for my gym that pulls a bunch of info together on Paleo, Zone, etc., into one place, and I listed these sites --people loved it.
I found that the best way to 'wean' yourself into Paleo is one food group at a time. Start by reducing (& removing) processed sugar, then go with grains, then go with dairy... the rest falls into place....and if you are being less active, and having cravings, there is probably a reason for it -- mineral deficiency, sleep deprivation, etc.... journaling activity level & time, food intake & time, amount of sleep, etc. really helped me to nail some of that stuff. You'll be great :) Good luck, Liz!
Permalink Reply by Liz McNutt on April 18, 2012 at 7:32pm Just an update... had some time to look at the links, got myself some paleo recipes (for when I'm wanting something a little fancier than usual and for more ideas) and my cravings are still less and less each day. Started reading up on IF as well today and that seems to help too, letting myself know I may not be hungry and don't need to find something to eat as often as I'm used. It makes me think about food less and when I think about it less, I again crave less! Working to increase sleep and might do a journal at some point. Yay progress!

Permalink Reply by Jenn Kast on April 20, 2012 at 5:44am On a slightly different note: I've been sugar free (except special occasions) since the initial suggestion in Aug 2010, but I've hesitated to move my kids (11 and 8) too far in that direction. I just assumed I'd get a lot of hassle from them about it. But it bothered me, so since Christmas I've scaled back on what is available to them. Now we've had a whole week sugar free and not a complaint from either of them. We discussed why as a family we're heading that way and they seemed into it. I reassured them we'll still have treats, but that our goal is enjoy foods in their natural state as much as possible. To be fair, they've never had a lot of sugar or processed food, so the switch wasn't too arduous. But what I wanted to communicate was how open they were to the logic of healthy eating and the joys of keeping treats really special.
Permalink Reply by Casey Teske on April 20, 2012 at 12:01pm awesome stuff!! keep it up, and I bet they ask for healthy treats & snacks instead of 'sugary' stuff :)

Permalink Reply by Martyn Standing on April 21, 2012 at 9:05am That´s a really inspirational story. I have the problem with my kids that they´re eating too much sugar at the moment and I know I have to get them off it in general. Thanks for sharing it, you´ve really made my day!
Permalink Reply by Liz McNutt on April 23, 2012 at 10:25am Lori, thanks for sharing!! I'm working on adjusting my diet and lifestyle before changing my children's. I feel I'm about ready to start shifting them and this week it will start slowly. (they are only 3 and 5.5) Though I've always been "healthy" I found I had a LONG way to go and the past two months have been amazing. I too am a better, happier, nicer person! Not to mention more healthy and stronger! Now if you want to share any tips on making your way up to a 50miler... (I'm not even up to 10, but feels within reach!)
