Hey Eric - This is my first day as a member and haven't stopped reading since I joined a couple hours ago. I have always loved to run and get the most joy out of it than any other activity. Recently, I haven't been running as much as i'd like to, but I just finished Born to Run and realized why I love to run so much. I came across this post and can definitely relate. In February 2010, I randomly told my wife I wasn't going to have any soda/sugar for an entire year. I'm not sure why I decided to do this, but I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could do it. Exactly one year later in February 2011, I hadn't touched sugar and accomplished my goal. Since then, I rarely eat or care for sugar and have a ton more energy then I did before. It was the best thing I have done for my nutrition to date. I believe anyone can achieve your 20 day challenge if they set their mind to it. After 20 days you won't want to stop because you'll feel so much better. Thanks for such a great site and helpful tips! - Alex

I´m on day 2 and I feel like death. I am shivering with a fever and totally lacking in energy. I´ve googled, always a dangerous thing, and it would appear that there can be quite severe withdrawal symptoms from doing this.

I have to say that each chocolate bar looks like it was made in heaven especially for me.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Detoxing symptoms include headache, fever, shakes, etc. So, yeah, if you are 'addicted' to sugar, and you take it away, then you would probably feel like crap! but, it is worth pushing through the first 3-5 days to get to the other side & sugar free!!

Been Paleo/Sugar Free for a couple years, and supplementing with isagenix, which I find to be HUGE.... keep it up!! :)

Vomiting and diarrhea as well? This is what I´m trying to find out - did someone do this and feel as bad as I did?

Glad to see you got through it though.

wow, i have not heard of that severe of symptoms, and I deal with athletes a lot....did you eat something you are allergic to? fighting the flu that appeared at the same time as you began paleo? Are you still having the symptoms?

The fever and vomiting died down after two days but my stomach still felt queasy until I started taking on carbs again. It went almost immediately after that. I may have had a bug that was made worse by my sudden change in diet but I just don´t know.

this makes me think that you had a bug of some kind, although I am no doctor... what kind of 'carbs' did you start taking on? had you completely cut out all carbohydrates, or just grains & refined sugars? hopefully things have turned around for you...

The only carbs I was taking in were veg and nuts/seeds. Everything else went. When I started again, I ate yoghurt with honey and bread. I feel fine now.

keep it up! whatever you are doing must be working. that is just strange. Gotta love the uniqueness of every body! :D

New member here too, catching up on my first thread! I've been trying to go to "paleo" the past couple of months. I guess I hover around 90%, but I have cut out a LOT of sugar, though not all. My two main sources I think are from honey and the little dark chocolate I eat from time to time. However I wonder if I'm missing other sources. Since most of my food is fresh, hoping not... Do others feel honey is okay (I drink tea and use it to sweeten it)?

I think it depends how strict you want to be. There is sugar in honey and some will say it´s ok and others will say it´s not.

Martyn is right, and there is a little room for lee-way, depending on WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. Raw, local honey is the best option for honey -- helps with allergies, too!!! There are a handful of awesome sites out there with helpful/useful information...I love how this lifestyle has changed me for the better.  A few personal favorites:
